Literature Text

I step up to the deck
Look down over the port side
The sun is waving a sweet goodbye
The ocean waves
come to welcome me home.

The seagulls cry
in a joyous reunion
My eyes fall closed
As the breeze graces my cheeks
The sea is singing
The water is dancing

WEIGH ANCHOR!
SET THE SAILS!
i shout in a triumphant call
anticipating the journey ahead.
this is where i'm meant to be.

The wind catches the ship
and away we go
the dock disappears into the horizon
and we glide along the ocean
almost as if we are flying

I stand at peace
at the bow of my ship
salty sprays of water
trickle about my body
and i just can't help but smile

My ears almost perk
to listen to the crew
as they merrily sing
and down their brew.
I catch myself singing along
and my cheeks almost sting from my grin

What lies ahead for this venturing soul?
not even i know...
but i'll go where the wind wants me to go.
my crew and i
will travel the world
with our swords at our sides
and our chins held high.

This is the life
just my ship and i
exploring the unknown
traveling by the stars
falling asleep to the rocking of the waves
this is what i live for.
This is where i'm meant to be.

-- the pirate --
you can take a pirate out of the ocean
but you can't take the ocean out of the pirate
